Google Business Profile checklist for dentists
A practical checklist to set up and improve your dental clinic's Google Business Profile, so patients nearby find you and choose you.
When someone nearby searches “dentist near me”, the first thing they see is usually not a website. It is a map and a short list of clinics, each with a rating, photos and a call button. That listing is your Google Business Profile, and it is free.
A complete, active profile is one of the most useful things a clinic can do to be found locally. This checklist walks through it step by step.
1. Claim and verify your profile
Search for your clinic on Google Maps. If a listing already exists, claim it. If not, create one. Google will ask you to verify that you own the clinic, usually by a code sent to your address or phone. Until you verify, you cannot manage the profile.
2. Get the basics exactly right
- Clinic name. Use your real clinic name, the same as on your signboard. Do not stuff extra keywords into it.
- Category. Choose “Dentist” as the main category, and add others that really apply, such as “Dental clinic” or “Orthodontist”.
- Address and map pin. Check the pin sits on your clinic entrance.
- Phone number. Use a number that is answered during clinic hours.
- Website. Add your website address so patients can read about treatments and your doctor.
3. Keep your timings accurate
Set your regular hours, and update them for holidays. Wrong timings are one of the quickest ways to lose a patient who arrives at a closed clinic and leaves a bad review.
4. Add your services
List the treatments you offer, such as cleaning, fillings, root canal, braces and implants. Add a short plain description for each. This helps Google show you for the right searches.
5. Add real photos
Add photos of your clinic front, reception, treatment room and team. Use your own photos, not stock images. Patients like seeing the place before they visit, and real photos build trust. Add new photos regularly.
6. Ask for reviews, and reply to them
Reviews matter a great deal when someone is choosing a dentist.
- Ask happy patients for a review at the end of a good visit, and send them a direct link to make it easy.
- Reply to every review, short and polite, including the unhappy ones. Never share patient details in a reply.
- Do not offer rewards for reviews or write fake ones. It breaks Google’s rules and can get your profile removed.
7. Post updates
Use the posts feature for news, such as new treatments, camp days or timing changes. A profile that is updated looks active and cared for.
8. Make booking easy
Add a booking or message link so a patient can reach you in one tap. A WhatsApp booking link works well, because patients already use WhatsApp every day. See how WhatsApp booking can work for a clinic.
9. Keep your details the same everywhere
Your clinic name, address and phone number should match across your website, your profile and any directory listings. Small differences confuse both Google and patients.
10. Check it every month
Once a month, look at your profile: reply to new reviews, correct anything that changed, and add a photo or a post. Ten minutes a month is enough to keep it in good shape.
How this connects to your website
Your profile gets patients to notice you. Your website helps them decide. A clear page for each treatment, your doctor and your timings, all easy to read on a phone, turns a map listing into an appointment. Dental Sphere pairs a complete website with WhatsApp booking for exactly this reason. If you would like help with both, see our page on dental clinic websites.
